Busyness: Decisions on Time & Energy

Thanks for connecting, take a seat, relax and kick your shoes off as Spirit and I share with you some wisdom and insights to help you deal with busyness that you may be experiencing in today's fast paced and results-driven society as well as some practical tips to help you make decisions about where to focus your time and energy.

Many of you may find yourselves engaging in lots of action every day, where you always seem to be doing something, essentially you are busy being busy.... or maybe you are someone who judges yourself as successful or unsuccessful based on how busy you are or on how much you have to do. This is essentially know as a pattern of busyness, a self-sabotage behaviour, that you engage in consciously or unconsciously out of fear which creates obstacles or roadblocks to hold yourself back from successfully achieving what it is you desire in life.

You all have responsibilities and obligations in life which are necessary to fulfil on a daily basis, whether it is taking care of your household, paying the rent, looking after your children or family, but are you too busy being busy to have the time or energy for the things you really want to be doing? Do you have time to exercise and take care of your physical body, are you spending time connecting with friends, undertaking social activities, do you have the space for the children you want to have, the relationship you want to manifest, the new business or career opportunity? Or are you simply taking action on the endless list of errands or tasks that need to be completed?

At times the times when you feel like you have too much to do, think you are busy, you are more than likely engaging in your pattern of busyness, which can lead to feelings of overwhelm, stress, worry, anxiety and doubting your own abilities to achieve what it is you desire and to fulfil your goals, making you more than likely to focus your thoughts and energy on the problem that you are experiencing. It is important to know that you can be effective and efficient in achieving tasks and getting things done while also feeling relaxed and peaceful in amongst it. How do you do this, you ask?

The first thing you need to do is recognise when you have stepped into the busyness pattern, then take some time to step back from the situation, have another look from a different perspective and start aligning yourself with the solution. How do you do that? Well, firstly, I suggest that you remove yourself from all outside distractions and that you come back to focusing on yourself, on your breath and getting into the present moment. Once you have done that, grab a pen and paper, thinking about the situation or what it is you are experiencing, start asking yourself the following questions:

1. Do you absolutely have to do it?

  • What would happen if you didn’t do it?

  • Would everything fall apart?

  • Could things go on without my help?

2. Do you really and truly want to do it?

  • What do you really want out of life?

  • What activities make you happiest, peaceful, light, focused, connected, loved, sensual?

  • What do you want to be able to say you did with your life?

  • How do the individual activities you are doing fit in with that?

3. Does it absolutely have to get done now?

  • Is this really urgent or is it your perception?

  • Can it wait until later?

  • Is there a better time for this to be done?

4. Are you the only person who can do this?

  • Can you delegate this task, problem or situation to someone else?

  • Is there an expert you can engage to help or can you out-source it?

  • Should you be the only person who can do this?

5. What will you get out of it?

  • Is what you get out of doing this really important to you?

  • Is there a balance between doing for you and doing for others?

  • How often do you do something that is just for you?

6. How much time do you have to devote to something new?

  • What would you have to give up to spend time on a new opportunity?

7. What would be the best possible solution to this situation?

  • Is there an opportunity for you to shift your thoughts in the direction of the solution?

  • What steps can you take to let go of frustration, overwhelm, impatience, anxiety or doubt?

  • Do you trust that the solution will present itself at the best possible time?

  • Are there external resources available to seek support from?

Please remember that not everything has to be completed right now! Accept where you are at in the moment, you can only do what you can do. Start making decisions about how you spend your time and energy based on what is in direct alignment and integrity with and moving you towards having your needs, wants and desires successfully fulfilled.
